Carcass characteristics, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of longissimus muscle of young bulls from four genetic groups finished in feedlot R. Bras. Zootec.
Ito,Roberto Haruyoshi; Prado,Ivanor Nunes do; Rotta,Polyana Pizzi; Oliveira,Marival Gustavo de; Prado,Rodolpho Martin do; Moletta,José Luiz.
This experiment was carried out to evaluate the carcass characteristics, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of the longissimus muscle of 32 young bulls from four genetic groups: Caracu; Canchin; Aberdeen Angus × Canchin; and Charolais × Caracu, finished in feedlot and slaughtered at 22 months old. Each group was composed of eight animals. There was no difference for moisture, ash, crude protein or total cholesterol between bulls from different genetic groups. However, total lipids percentage was higher for bulls from Caracu and Aberdeen Angus × Canchin and lower for Canchin and Charolais genetic groups. Polyunsaturated fattty acids and n-6 percentage was higher for Canchin and lower for Caracu, Aberdeen Angus × Canchin and Charolais genetic...

EFFECTS OF THREE FRACTIONS OBTAINED FROM Naja haje VENOM ON HEMOLYSIS AND LIPID METABOLISM IN RABBITS J. Venom. Anim. Toxins
EL-AAL,A. A.; EZZAT,A. R..
Three fractions (F1, F2 and F3) were obtained from the venom of the Egyptian cobra Naja haje by gel filtration. F1 and F2 had indirect hemolytic effects on rabbit erythrocytes. The HU50 (the amount of the fraction causing 50% hemolysis ) values of F1 and F2 were 12.04 ± 3.89 and 36.57 ± 2.20 µg, respectively. The effects of the three cobra venom fractions on lipid metabolism were studied after 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours. Serum total lipids and cholesterol were significantly decreased at almost all tested times, but variable changes were observed in the serum triglycerides. Serum inorganic phosphorus levels were significantly increased with F1 and F2 administration more than that with the F3 fraction. These results suggest that F1 and F2 possess phospholipase...

ABSTRACT: Brazil has the largest herd of goats of the American continent, with more than 9 million head. Goat farming is considered a growing and important activity for the economy, mainly in the northeastern region of Brazil .In this research, were determined the lipid content and the composition of fillet and shank fatty acids of young goats, registered in the inspection sector of the Ministry of Agriculture and marketed in the city of Salvador (Bahia). The average percentage of total lipids in the fillet was 1.68±0.04 and in the shank of 4.02±0.09, this is a significant difference between the cuts (P<0.05). Twenty-seven (27) fatty acids were identified in the cuts, most are palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0) and oleic acid (C18:1ω9) present...

Carcass characteristics and chemical composition of Longissimus muscle of 32 young bulls from four genetic groups slaughtered at 14 months old were evaluated. Experimental design was completely randomized and distributed into four genetics groups: 1. Caracu (CAR); 2. Canchin (CAN); 3. Charolais vs. Caracu (CHC) and 4. Aberdeen Angus vs. Canchin (AAC). Carcass dressing and carcass conformation were lower for CAR than CAN, CHC and AAC genetic groups. No difference has been reported with regard to moisture, ash, crude protein, total lipids and total cholesterol among four genetics groups. The genetic groups influence fatty acid profile on Longissimus muscle in bulls. Cattle with zebu genes had the highest rates in unsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty...

Minority compounds and sensory analysis evaluation of Coffea arabica var. c aturra cultivated in three different altitudinal ranges Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Cruz-Bolivar,Jennifer Tatiana; Rodríguez-Pérez,Wilson; Suárez-Salazar,Juan Carlos; Ordoñez-Espinosa,Claudia Mercedes; Vega-Cano,Gustavo Adolfo.
Abstract The composition of minority compounds in samples of roasted and ground coffee (Coffea arabica var. caturra) cultivated in three altitudinal ranges 1300-1400, 1400-1600, 1600-1800 m. a. s. l., in the Huila department of Colombia were determined. The samples were collected in July of 2012. pH, total acidity and total lipids were measured. Subsequently, the composition of total lipids after esterification and gas chromatography analysis coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was established. Quality cup test considering the following attributes: fragrance/aroma, taste, residual flavor, acidity, body, uniformity, balance, clean cup, sweetness, quality and note, were performed. No statistically significant difference (p <0.05) in pH,...

Rapid non-invasive assessment of quality parameters in ground soybean using near-infrared spectroscopy PAB
Santos,Larissa Rocha dos; Zangirolami,Marcela de Souza; Silva,Núbia Oliveira; Valderrama,Patrícia; Março,Paulo Henrique.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate multivariate calibration models to predict total lipids, crude protein, and moisture content in grinded soybean grains using near-infrared spectroscopy and partial least squares (PLS). Three hundred samples of grinded soybean, evaluated in duplicate, were used for reference and spectral measurements. The PLS models for total lipids, crude protein, and moisture were validated by figures of merit for accuracy and precision, respectively, of 0.75 and 0.67 for total lipids, 0.51 and 0.46 for crude protein, and 0.97 and 0.99 for moisture. The PLS models developed for total lipids, crude protein, and moisture can be used as an alternative methodology for the determination of physicochemical parameters, and,...
